Using the email anti-spam interface in Helm

The anti-spam settings are now available in Helm within the Email Accounts (POP3) section.
Settings under here apply to all email accounts under this domain except where settings have been altered at the email address level.

Settings can also be customised on a per mailbox level by navigating to the mailbox and clicking Anti-Spam Setting. These settings will over ride the domains settings for the specific mailbox.

Spam Filter Sensitivity

The spam filter sensitivity can be adjusted to be more aggressive (closer to 1) or less sensitive (closer to 10). By default all domains are set to 5 which is the recommended setting. This number gives the firewall required cut off limit before email gets marked as spam. Each email is given a score based on the the contents of the mail headers and body. This score can be viewed by clicking on View and the Message Source in your email client or alternatively can be seen in the Message Log section and typically looks something like this :
X-Spam-Status: No, score=-0.9 required=5.0 tests=BAYES_00,DNS_FROM_RFC_POST

Grey Listing

This is the option to enable (ticked) or disable (unticked) greylisting for your domain or email account. Greylisting is a spam prevention method which greatly reduces the amount of viruses and spam received.

How it works?

Our mail servers initially, temporarily reject an email from an unrecognised mail server. The sending server will then retransmit the message as per standard email protocol. However, spammers generally will not because they send many emails quickly and not monitor those that fail.

The combination of IP and e-mail addresses of the sender and receiver (the "triplet") are checked, if they have not previously been approved our servers send a "busy" message to the sending server. Note: Greylisting occurs prior to white and blacklisting.

Spam Subject Rewrite

Spam Subject Rewrite will prefix the entered text to the subject of any mail marked as spam.
In this example : Get Cheap Viagra
Will be rewritten as : *****This is SPAM ***** Get Cheap Viagra

Black/White Listing

The black list address section lists all domains/emails, if any, that have been added to be blacklisted in future from receiving email. This can also be applied on a per email account basis by navigating to the required email address under Email Accounts (POP3) and then clicking Anti-Spam Settings. Use the Add button to create a blacklist address entry or click an existing blacklist address from the list to edit or delete it.

Whitelisting works exactly the same as blacklisting however addresses listed under whitelisting are delivered regardless of their spam score.

Message Log

The message log section allows you to view all messages that have gone through the firewall in the past 7 days for the domain. You can use the search fields and click search button to narrow down the results.

The search results are displayed in a order of date received. They show all basic information about all email meeting the search criteria. By clicking on a message in the search results you can view the message source.

Mark as Ham/Spam, Resend

Message details and the message source can be viewed once a search result is selected.

Mark email as Ham, means the mail was incorrectly marked as spam and in future the firewall will be more lenient toward the details in this message.

Marking a message as spam will do exactly that, so in future messages with these details will be scored more aggressively as spam.

The resend mail option will resend this mail to the precipitant regardless of whether it was marked as spam or not.
