Login troubles caused by Transparent-proxy server farm
|
Problem/Summary I log onto certain sites successfully but then get kicked off because I am "not connecting from the IP address I logged in from"? This happens often with phpBB-based Forums Cause In SA, if you are using a SAIX Telkom line to access the Internet, the ADSL service uses a transparent proxy-server farm for all International access. This farm of proxy servers helps reduces the international bandwidth bottleneck problems we have. These proxy servers report their own IP address for the web requests. This means that when you download a page, the return address given to the web server is in fact the address of the proxy server. The server in turn sends this page back to you for your viewing. The reason this is called "transparent" is because you don"t have to do anything specific to utilise this service and it is supposed to be seamlessly integrated. Unfortunately, because every request goes through a different proxy server, some sites which use the IP address for extra security will deny you access when you try to navigate away from the page where you logged in. Resolution Use a specific proxy server instead. Please refer to the proxy server tutorial. |
